I know it’s just over two months into the year, but at this point Nina Is Not OK* is currently my favourite out of the ten I have read so far in 2017 at the time of writing this review.
Shappi Khorsandi may be a familiar name to you because she is a comedian. When I requested this book from NetGalley, and even when I picked it up to read, I hadn’t actually realised that I knew who this woman was. Khorsandi is a comedian I have seen on TV and enjoyed, but I hadn’t actually known her name until now.
Khorsandi’s book really surprised me. It’s not that I didn’t expect it to be good, but more, upon reading the first few chapters I wasn’t a massive fan of our main character. Not liking the main character is very off-putting when reading and in many cases I have ended up DNF’ing the book, but not with Nina is Not OK.
I was really interested in the plot of this book and it kept me gripped because I haven’t read a great many books that deal with alcoholism and I feel that Khorsandi dealt with it very well and I really enjoyed her writing. The more I read, the more interested I was and slowly I started to care for Nina. Nina really developed as a character throughout this novel and near the end you really cannot help rooting for her. Aside from Nina, this book also has many other brilliant characters who I really enjoyed; I especially loved Alan, Beth and Trish.
I also really enjoyed the ending of this book, it left me feeling really happy and satisfied. Despite not being keen when I first opened the book, it stands out as a favourite amongst those I’ve recently read, plus its themes of alcohol and sex are different to what I would usually read, but nevertheless I really liked this book and I rate it 5/5.
Have you read Nina Is Not OK, or are you familiar with Khorsandi as a comedian? I’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions!

I’ve already purchased this book and was worried it would leave me in a pool of my own making… I hate book hangovers. But now I know it’s a happy ending *smiles* No more excuses. Thanks for sharing your review. Look forward to the next one,
